Why won't my car shift?

I have a 1979 el camino which won't shift out of first, park, reverse and drive all work but none of them will go past first. I changed the trans fluid but haven't changed the filter yet, is there anything else that i may have missed, its a th350 transmission by the way. Let me know if there is anything else you need to know i'll try to answer any questions
